[Nankervis?]," "W. R. Burke," "D. M. Scott," and "J. M. Child." No date, circa 1924. Document with blue backing: 9" x 14 1/2." Document with brown backing: 9" x 13 1/2." The actual documents measure about 8 1/2" x 12." Thirteen pages. Each document has three horizontal fold lines. There are some annotations in pen and pencil on the documents. Each document is very clean and intact except for slight age toning. The paper backings of the documents are each very clean and intact except for age toning and slight wear to extremities. Each document with its backing and the entire collection are Very Good. These two mock legal briefs were for the Moot Court Competition at the School of Jurisprudence (now known as the UC Berkeley School of Law or Berkeley Law), University of California, Berkeley, in c. 1924. The two legal briefs are, respectively, a brief for the Empire Bank in the case, The Empire Bank v. Frederick Foster, and a brief for defendant Frederick Foster in the case (action of interpleader), Ernest Evans v. Frederick Foster and the Empire Bank. The cases revolved around a diamond owned by Ernest Evans and loans involving Evans, jeweler James Jacobs, Frederick Foster, and the Empire Bank. The mock attorneys for Evans were D. M. Scott and J. M. Child. The mock attorneys representing the Empire Bank were Kenneth Lloyd Williams and William (Nankervis?). A moot court is an activity that is frequently part of the curricula at law schools. Moot courts simulate the court or arbitration proceedings of appellate courts, arbitral tribunals, or international dispute resolution bodies and differ from mock trials in that there is no simulated jury, witness testimony, cross-examination, or presentation of evidence. Moot courts instead emphasize the practice of law for mock cases with set parameters and contextual facts and background information.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: No Binding
