Original autographed letter signed to Charles Augustus Hanna. Letter dated September 11, 1921. Philadelphia. 2 pages. 8 X 10 1/2 inches. Albert Tangeman Volwiler (1888-1957) was a college history professor. In this letter, written on the University of Pennsylvania letterhead where he is working on his Ph.D, Volwiler asks C.A. Hanna (1863-1950) for information regarding a George Croghan. Hanna was also a historian and Volwiler has noticed Hanna's research on Croghan in Hanna's book, "The Wilderness Trail" (1911). Specifically, Volwiler is looking for manuscript material relating to Croghan. Volwiler's "George Croghan and The Western Movement (1741-1782) was published in 1926.
