Collection of twenty-three original tennis ephemera comprising a variety of items including printed booklets, mimeographs, typescripts, and autograph notes. Some of the notes may be by Althea Gibson. No date, circa 1950s-1960s. Item measurements range between about 3 1/2" x 6" and 8 1/2" x 11." Some items are more damaged than others; a few typescripts are very fragile and have chipped edges with few wrinkles while others are more intact but have more wrinkling. Other items, such as the printed booklets, are virtually pristine and intact except for minuscule age toning and slight edge wear. Each item is clean and intact overall. The most common types of damage in the collection are light age toning, wrinkling, and edge wear. The collection as a whole is Very Good. Many of the items are about or by the United States Lawn Tennis Association (USLTA). The following is a numbered summary of the items in this collection. 1) "Tennis Lessons for Young Players," stapled mimeograph of a bulletin by Percy C. Rogers, Secretary of USLTA, eight pages. 2) "A Tennis Development Program for Schools," mimeograph of an article by Rogers, two pages (one leaf printed front and back), two copies (one in stapled packet of No. 6). 3) Four autograph notes about tennis, four pages. 4) "How to Develop Junior Tennis in Your Club," stapled typescript or mimeograph, four pages. 5) "Tennis Publications Available," mimeographed book list by USLTA, one page, two copies (one in stapled packet of No. 6). 6) "Manual for the School Tennis Coach: Why Schools Should Encourage Tennis," fourteen pages and extra copies of Nos. 2 and 5 and "Tennis Films Available" film list (one page). 7) Two typed notes about tennis (one is a reference list; the other has quotes by Red Sanders and Ralph Kiner), two pages. 8) "Rough Outline for Tennis Picture," typescript, two pages. 9) "Tennis," carbon typescript with holograph corrections, script for pictorial tennis booklet, fifteen pages. 10) "Tennis: The Sport for a Lifetime," carbon typescript with holograph corrections, script for pictorial tennis booklet, fourteen pages. 11) Carbon typescript with quotes by President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon about tennis, one page (Page 30 of a larger publication; the rest not included). 12) "Tennis for Speed, Stamina, Strength, and Skill," outline for a pictorial tennis booklet, seven pages. 13) Mimeographed copy of No. 10 ("Tennis: The Sport for a Lifetime"). 14) Two typed or mimeographed notes about "Tennis: The Sport for a Lifetime," two pages. 15) "Tennis: The Sport for a Lifetime: Preliminary Outline for 16-page Pictorial Booklet," carbon typescript on yellow paper, eight pages. 16) "A Tennis Program for Elementary and Secondary Schools," white paper wrappers with printed black text, six pages. 17) "Tennis Queen for Jubilee Year," printed mock-up of a newspaper release with D. A. Syndicate, Eastern Division, New York. 18) "Junior Manual," prepared by Junior Tennis Development Committee, white paper wrappers with staple binding, printed black text, twenty-two pages. 19) "How to Improve Your Tennis" by Harry "Cap" Leighton, published by Athletic Institute of Chicago, green paper wrappers with staple binding, eighty-four pages with many instructive black-and-white printed photographs and illustrations. 20) Ad from William R. Hutton promoting instructive "picture books," four pages (one leaf folded in half and printed on all sides). 21) "Your Guide to Good Courtsmanship" by Ashaway, green and white paper wrappers with staple binding, an introductory guide to tennis, ten pages. 22) "U.S.L.T.A. Service Bulletin, No. 111, Special Issue," white paper wrappers with printed black text, about "amateur tennis," eight pages. 23) "U.S.L.T.A. Service Bulletin, No. 156-S, Special Issue," white paper brochure with printed black text, promotes tennis players to join USLTA, four pages (one leaf folded in half and printed on all sides).. Book.
