ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE : The Surgeon of Gaster Fell. A story. With an afterword by Daniel Stashower

Crippen & Landru Publishers, Norfolk, Virginia, 2000

The first separate edition of this Conan Doyle story, originally printed over four 1890 issues of the periodical 'Chamber's Journal', and later included in a considerably revised format in the collection 'Danger! And Other Stories' (this present edition restores the original text). Slim 8vo. 20pp + [i] afterword and [iv] publisher's advertisements. Stapled card wrappers with just a hint of very light edgewear. Very good indeed. 1,000 copies were printed to recognise Conan Doyle as "ghost of honour" at the twelfth instalment of the annual Malice Domestic fan convention. This story of "a young surgeon who resorts to drastic measures in order to keep his father from the lunatic asylum" resonates strongly with Conan Doyle's personal circumstances at the time of writing, and upon eventual bookform publication he excised or altered much of the material. [A light item, UK postage will be reduced].. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
