Collection of seventeen original letters, bills, and receipts to Asa P. Morse. Printed and handwritten text in black ink on beige and blue paper. Documents measure between about 8 1/2" x 2 1/4" and 8 1/4" x 10 1/2." 1860s-1870s. Each document is clean and intact except for light age toning, occasional staining, fold lines, and slight wrinkling and splitting. Each document and the entire collection are Very Good. Asa P. Morse (1818-1906) was the owner of a large cooperage firm in Boston, Massachusetts. Most of the items are bills or receipts. There are a few letters. One of the letters (dated 1866) is from W. R. Brown of "The Banking House of W. R. Brown" in Toronto, Canada. During the 1850s, Brown was a publisher based in Toronto. In the late 1860s, Brown was unfortunately involved in what could be considered bank fraud when his bank collapsed under financial pressure (cited from R. T. Naylor's The History of Canadian Business, 1867-1914). Two of the other letters (dated 1878) are from William Rose, a shook manufacturer based in St. Louis, Michigan. The following are most of the businesses represented by the bills and receipts: "Frost & Co.," "The Canada Southern Line," "Welch & Griffiths" (saw manufacturers), "Fearing, Rodman & Swift" (cordage, chains, anchors, rope, bunting, and ship chandlery), "J.
