War College - 9 MAR. 1911 - DEVONPORT' library stamp to title page, along with an oval,inked 'Supplied Public Service' stamp just beneath author's name and to recto and foot of title page,an alpha-numerical notation and an inked 'Plymouth Public Libraries' stamp. Contemporary dated,ink 'R.N. WAR COLLEGE - 9 MAR.1911 - DEVONPORT' library stamp to top of List of maps' page and to the foot of rear free endpaper,along with a taped barcode to same and same 'WAR COLLEGE' stamp towards the top of rear pastedown also.Lightly faded,publisher's original dark blue cloth boards with stamped,red ink laurel leafed and titled/lettered vignette to upper bd,similar vignette to spine/backstrip but in gilt letters,ex- library's white ink numerical notation to foot of same.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners,with some bumping, rubbing and light fading and minimally bumped to both head+foot of spine/ backstrip.Top+fore-edges inevitably aged with some minimal sporadic foxng/spotting to same,all edges untrimmed; contents generally bright,tight and clean,with some minimal foxng/spotting sporadically throughout the book.Upper bd's,top 1/3rd spine/backstrip's joint/edge/gutter,frayed and with approx 2.5" split.Inside hinges strengthened,plain,white endpapers with aforementioned library indications also have offset foxing;the rear pastedown vertically slit to make a wallet,holding 3 folding maps - all present.UK,8vo HB,vii-xvpp+2-372pp [paginated] includes author dated preface,contents+maps lists/tables,8 letters/chapters,8 b/w+red folding maps - all called for - 5 tipped in,3 loose in rear wallet (1 map in wallet is in two pieces,torn along horizontal fold but is still complete) plus [unpaginated] half- title+title pages and dedication.Described hard,but fairly and honestly. An attempt has been made in these pages to illustrate from recent examples the direction of naval and military force against a common objective. Courses of lectures delivered at the Staff College of Camberley have provided the material from which the letters have been compiled,and the book has been written in response to requests received by the writer from officers,both naval and military,who attended the courses.. . . . Free use has been made of lectures delivered by students at the Staff College,especially in the 4th,5th,and 6th letters. Wars covered include the Chilian War, 1891,the Spanish-American War,1898,the Chino-Japanese War,1894-5 and the Russo-Japanese War,1904-5. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template,altering its prices,weight allowances,dimensions and lowered its qualifying compensation rates too!
