Author's non-crime/mystery debut. To Jacques Giron, painter, his art was everything and when he was at work, nothing, nobody else mattered. So it was that when he came to the little French fishing village of Aumer and saw in childlike Francine Goulard the incarnation of all the beauty of the sea and the shore,he first visualized her as an exquisite picture - then he fell in love. Francine, enamoured by Jacque's charm, was convinced that she, too, loved him and consented to marry to marry him.And so they journeyed to Paris in search of new inspiration - but happiness was short- lived and Jacques was led to unfaithfulness.Heartbroken,Francine returned to her grandparents at Aumer, there to take up the threads of her old, tranquil life; but love came afresh to her in the form of Paul d'Amiot,a man of the sea and childhood friend - a love so deep and strong that with him she was prepared to become an outcast, facing the disapproval of both Church and people. Author's (rare - more so with a dw/dj) debut novel, one of four that were not of crime fiction.Better known to collectors and readers, for his later published crime fiction titles, with his series characters; Monsieur Pinaud and Hercule Renard - these novels being set in France. He also wrote under pseudonym Peter Hodemart.
