This bibliographical story was compiled and given birth by the team of John Crichton, Harry Goff, Robin Heyeck, Michael A. Keller, Frank Novak and David C. Weber. The Beecher article was written over one-hundred-forty- years ago, and yet, it seems a modern expression of the love of books. It turned up in the pages of this 1863 heavily-worn, spine-less book still treasured and read today. The book may well have been used by a teacher in Westminster Academy, Massachusetts, later coming into the hands of this teacher's granddaughter now living on the Stanford University campus." Beecher (1813-1887) was an American Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer and speaker, known for his support of the abolition of slavery.
