Original publisher's multicolored wrapper. 5 1/2" x 9 1/4." Fifteen pages, complete. Multiple black and white illustrations throughout. Front and back covers feature color illustrations of men in formal French outfits, one holding cooked poultry on a dish and the other holding drinks, respectively. Covers and pages are very clean and intact. The menu includes various priced items under the following categories: "Relishes," "Oysters and Clams," "Crabs," "Lobsters," "Terrapin, Frogs, and French Snails," "Our Specialities," "Soups," "Fish," "Entrees, Poutry," "Roast or Broiled," "Steaks and Chops," "Sandwiches," "Salads," "Cold Meats," "Eggs and Omelettes," "Miscellaneous," "Vegetables," "Dessert," "Entremets," "Cheese," and "Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate." The Old Poodle Dog was a restaurant in San Francisco that was renowned in its time for its fine French cuisine. In 1849, two men from France, P. Allarme and A. B. Blanco, opened the Old Poodle Dog restaurant. The name of the restaurant was first called "Le Poulet d'Or," but since many of the patrons had difficulty with the French pronunciation, "Poodle Dog" became the official name. In 1908, the Old Poodle Dog (owned by J. B. Pon and Calixte Lalanne), Bergez's Restaurant (owned by John Bergez), and Frank's Restaurant (owned by Louis Coutard and Camille Mailhebuau) merged under one restaurant, Bergez-Frank's Old Poodle Dog. The new restaurant had five floors with elegant decor, and the top floor featured a ballroom. Louis dressing was also created at the new establishment by Louis Coutard in 1908. In 1922, the Old Poodle Dog closed its door due to prohibition. As Calixte Lalanne put it, "great cuisine cannot be served without wine.". Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
