Beautiful two-sided color map printed on paper. Maps illustrated by Don Bloodgood. Map folded into ninths. 10 3/4" x 7 1/2" folded. 33" x 22" unfolded. "Litho, in U. S. A." printed in lower-left corner on front. Map is very clean and intact except for light age toning, a few wrinkles, and a few tiny splits along fold lines at the edges. A Near Fine copy. Charming two-sided color map printed on the occasion of the California Pacific International Exposition held from May 29, 1935-November 11, 1935 in San Diego's Balboa Park. The purpose of the exposition was to promote San Diego during the economic downswing of the Great Depression. The exposition was held again from February 12, 1936-September 9, 1936 in Balboa Park. The front side features the exposition map and the back shows a map of San Diego and surrounding area, both of which are very detailed and illustrated from a perspective view in a cartoon style. On the front map, Balboa Park's iconic greenhouse is shown approximately at the center amid the exposition's several other buildings, points of interest, amenities, and a multitude of quaint and humorous scenes within the park. Among the scenes within the exposition map are a family walking hand-in-hand in a line, penguins by a pool, a pig-drawn cart, a parade, a prospector and his donkey, a man being sprayed by a hose, a boy about to slingshot a policeman, a dog investigating a man sleeping on the ground, and people scaling the walls of one of the buildings. The back map shows San Diego, nearby cities and places of interest, and a brief illustrated history of San Diego to the left and right. Like the exposition map, the back map shows many charming and humorous scenes. Among the scenes on the back are a man reading a newspaper on an inflatable tube in the ocean, another man about the pop said tube with a needle, two people who have fallen off their waterskis in San Diego Bay, a hunter chasing a moose into the Bay, a man tightrope-walking on the Mexico-California border, bees chasing a man, turkeys in a valley, grapes being harvested, and a man using a telescope to view the desert panorama in the background. Some of the labeled places and features on the front exposition map are the "Palace of Science," "Palace of Photography," "Alcazar Gardens," "Arch of the Future," "Palace of Education," "Palisades Restaurant," "Music Bowl," "State Building," "Federal Building," "Spreckels Organ," "House of Charm," "House of Hospitality," "Gold Gulch," "Casa del Rey Moro Garden," "Palace of Fine Arts," "Cafe of the World," "Botanical Gardens," "Japanese Garden," "Information," "Zoro Gardens," "Turtle Farm," "Indian Village," and "Midway." Some of the labeled points of interest on the back San Diego map are "La Jolla," "Pacific Beach," "Loma Portal," "Loma Alta," "Coronado," "Palm City," "National City," "Chula Vista," "Otay Reservoir," "Otay Valley," "Sweetwater Reservoir," "Sweetwater Valley," "Poway Valley," "Santa Maria Valley," "Cuyamaca Dam," "El Cajon Valley," "Agua Caliente," and the Mexico-California border..
