Two deluxe volumes. In French throughout. Francois le Vaillant was a traveller, zoologist, naturalist, ornithologist who was among the first to use colour plates for illustration. The two books are stunningly beautiful. Volume I: is hand-numbered 34 of a limited edition of 100 copies. It is fully bound in sea-blue calf leather. Gilt titling to front face and spine (elegant and luxe). The leather has some very, very slight storage scuffing. The leather is doux, very healthy and most attractive. The pages are gilt-trimmed. The trims gleam. The pages are exceptionally beautiful. Thick, creamy, clean, clear, confident, gentle, elegant. The book has a paper protective cover that is fit for purpose, even if worn and marked. Volume II too is fully bound in sea-blue leather. This too has some very, very light scuffing. The spine has a tiny amount of wear. The book has a paper protective cover that is worn and torn and is included. It has, however, served its purpose! This volume is marked as "Premiere edition". Two volumes complete. Both books in Afrikaans throughout. Included in volume I are a number of press-cuttings about le Vaillant and this publication. The original sales invoice is also included. Volume I is hand-numbered 215 of a limited edition of 500 copies. This is a very smart and confident copy. The book does have a paper protective cover that is worn and torn all about. It is included. boards have some very mild wear and scuffing. They are neat and very healthy. The page trims have very, very mild handling marks. Otherwise, the contents are glorious. The pages are bright, tight, fresh, vibrant, lively, luxe. Volume II is marked: "Eerste Uitgawe". The book has a paper protective sheet. This in turn has a clear cellophane cover. The cloth covered boards, as with Volume I, are most agreeable. The top corners have shallow knocks. The contents are in exceptionally pleasing condition.
