Original letter typed in purple ink on beige paper. Includes a signature and inscription written sideways in black ink. Signed, "W. R. Burkhard." Datelined February 28, 1893 in St. Paul, Minnesota. 8 1/4" x 11." One page. Letter is very clean and intact except for a few horizontal and vertical fold lines (perhaps original), age toning, and a few wrinkles. A Very Good copy. In this letter, W. R. Burkhard writes to "Charles W. Pomeroy, Esq." of Great Falls, Montana to let him know he intends to leave for Great Falls soon. Burkhard wants Pomeroy's assistance in pursuing a claim against "Mr. Parks" and "Mr. Cleeland" who have been operating a store in Great Falls with inventory provided by Burkhard but without paying him. The letter details Burkhard's latest plan of action. The Wm. R. Burkhard Company was established in 1855 as a sporting goods store. It remained in business until at least the 1930s. Both Wm. R. Burkhard, Sr. (?-1905) and Wm. R. Burkhard, Jr. (1870-?) operated the store. It is unclear which Wm. Burkhard has written this letter. The letter is on company stationery which has a printed header that reads, "Wm. R. Burkhard, Fire Arms, Ammunition, Fishing Tackle and Sporting Goods Generally. 128 East Third Street.". Manuscript.
