Catlin, C. T : Autograph Letter Signed - C. T. Catlin Letter to Amos P. Catlin, New York to Sacramento, 1855

Original letter handwritten in black ink on blue lined paper. Datelined May 28, 1855 in New York. 5" x 8." Two pages. Letter is very clean and intact except for light age toning along the edges and a couple of horizontal fold lines, which are perhaps original. A Very Good copy. Amos P. Catlin (1823-1900) was an early Sacramento businessman who was involved with the development of the Natoma Water and Mining Company. He later served in the California State Legislature and was a justice of the Superior Court of California in the 1890s. As a state senator, he also wrote the law that made Sacramento the permanent seat of government in California. C. T. Catlin (of unknown relation) of New York writes to Amos P. Catlin in Sacramento. Amos apparently owes C. T. $500, and C. T. asks him about it. C. T. writes, "I observe what you say of the vicissitudes of your life during your residence in California and presume if your fortunes had not been so varied, I should have heard from you at an earlier period.". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
