Central Head Committee of the United South African National Party : The Fruits of Fusion. Five Years of Wonderful Progress and National Reconstruction. The Case for an Extended Mandate

(Pretoria: United South African National Party, 1938)

243 x 157 mm; printed paper wrappers; pp. 31. Previous owner's discreet hand-stamp and small pen notation to upper wrapper; regular, light browning. Housed in a film-fronted bag. Very good condition. Produced in the year of the Great Trek Centenary celebrations and one year before Hertzog's resignation as Prime Minister and his defection from the fused United South African National Party, this booklet celebrates and itemises the accomplishments of the coalition government over the preceding five years, and calls for voters' support in the forthcoming election. Interestingly, the ideal of 'Unity' at this stage in South African politics is confined to the two major White language groups: "[Fusion] came into being because of the desire, the common desire on both sides, old Nationalists, old S.A. Party men, to build up a truly united nation and as a united nation to realise the great future that awaits us. It has achieved a measure of co-operation between English-speaking and Afrikaans-speaking South Africans, such as has never been attained before."
