8vo. 8pp pamphlet, BAPTISM - THE MODE, by Rev. John Edwards, Vinita, Indian Territory: Chieftain Print, no date, circa 1890, paper toned, top and bottom corners chipped off about 1-inch, not affecting text, a few short closed tears noted; paper is brittle. This is a very scarce Cherokee language imprint from Vinita, Indian Territory, which was later Oklahoma. The Reverend Chamberlin went to Pheasant Hill mission, in what is now Craig County, Oklahoma, in 1868, several years before Vinita came into existence. He printed his own translations of religious matter and distributed them among the Native Americans as part of his missionary work for the Presbyterian Church.
