This is a journal with handwritten entries in black ink which record the minutes of meetings by the incorporating Board of Directors or Board of Trustees of the National Spring and Journal Box Company. The idea behind the incorporation of the National Spring and Journal Box Co. was to generate cash by selling stock based on four patents of Herman Gardiner, one of the members of the incorporating Board of Directors. The patents were for car and carriage springs and journal boxes. On the first page, the other board members are named, John H. Coleman, Charles H. Todd, Thomas B. Chase, and James Plant. J. H. Stedwell and Richard Busteed later joined the board upon the resignations of other members. Many of the minutes address the election and resignation of different board members. The company may have also been known as the "National Spring Company" but appears to have accomplished no major success under its original name, the "National Spring and Journal Box Company." However, Chase continued in the manufacturing business and his company, the Thomas B. Chase Spring Company, is listed in New York directories of the early 1890s.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
