Ex-libris on paste down endpaper., “Manstein, a German by birth, served in the Russian army, and was an eye-witness to most of the incidents which he relates. He died a general officer in the Prussian service” (advertisement in the book). An important historical eye-witness account of Russian and Ukrainian history between 1727 and 1744. Manstein served with the Russian army in the Baltic, Siberia and the Crimea., Lowndes 1466; Atabey 758.
