Most of the photos and the collection as a whole are Fine. A collection of unique historical photographs relating to the Foulks Motor Company of Sacramento, California. Foulks Motor Company was founded in 1935 or 1936 after Guy Foulks (1887-1973) had bought out and renamed the Oldsmobile agency in Sacramento. The company was located at 17th and K Streets from 1936-1975. Foulks Motor Co. operated until the 1980s. This collection includes publicity photos of Oldsmobiles and photos showing the dealership garage and a staff party. Most, if not all, of the publicity photos show the company's cars in front of noted Sacramento landmarks such as Sutter's Fort, the State Capitol, and possibly one of the city's schools or universities. The photos were taken by Clarence Burkett, Sirlin Studios, and Nicholas DeLucia, three Sacramento photographers or photography studios. The Foulks family is believed to have immigrated to the United States from Wales in the 1700s. Guy Foulks was the son of George Washington Foulks (1842-1927) and Nellie Griffin (1862-1890). George may have been the first Foulks family member to set foot in California as he and his uncle, Jonathan Wood Pugh, had visited California in 1851 to find a new home for their family in Ohio. George's widowed mother, Euphemia "Effie" Pugh Foulks, and four siblings made the trek from Ohio to California in 1852 or 1853. The Foulks eventually reunited and settled in Elk Grove, California. George became a prominent local resident and served as the director of the Farmer's Protective Association, a director and one of the founders of the Elk Grove Wine Grower's Association, and a trustee of Elk Grove Union High School. Guy also became a noted Elk Grove community member and served on the boards of the Elk Grove Wine Grower's and Fruit Grower's Associations.. Photographic Image. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
