Circa early 1800s. 18 x 9 inch map on 19 x 11 inch paper. Multiple fold lines, small tears and chipping, especially lower left side. Some ink transfer due to being folded. Jean Baptiste d'Anville (1697-1782) was a geographer and cartographer who greatly improved the standards of map-making. He was known for his meticulous research. This map was originally drawn for Charles Rollin's "Ancient History". It covers North Africa, a portion of Spain, Sardinia and Sicily. It also includes an inset map that enlarges the portion of present day Tunisia that includes Carthage. This particular map is Plate III from an English translation of "Ancient History".. Book.
