Collection of two original billheads printed in black ink on light beige paper. Each includes handwriting in pencil. Datelined June 16 and 17, 1869 in Sacramento, California. 8 1/2" x 4 1/2." Billheads are clean and intact overall but have extensive staining (possibly glue residue) painted in two lines each on front and back, light age toning, and a vertical line in blue crayon or colored pencil at center. Good copies. Two original billheads from Daugherty & Company of Sacramento, California to the Central Pacific Railroad Machine Shop (identified as "CPRR Machine Shop"). CPRR purchased two identical line items, one per each billhead. The item is "1 Bag Dairy Salt." The printed header on each reads, "Bought of Daugherty & Co., Wholesale and Retail Dealers in Groceries and Provisions, Flour, Grain, Wines, Liquors, Etc., No. 7 Front Street, Bet. I and J, near the Water Works." The Central Pacific Railroad was a railroad company incorporated in 1861. It was chartered by United States Congress to complete the western part of the Transcontinental Railroad extending eastward from Sacramento. CPRR continued operating until 1885 when it was acquired by the Southern Pacific Railroad as a leased line. In 1959, Southern Pacific stopped the lease, and CPRR was formally absorbed by Southern Pacific.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Collectible-Good. Binding: No Binding
