Original publisher's pamphlet printed on white paper. 5 1/2" x 8 3/4." Two pages printed on one leaf, complete. Pages are very clean and intact but there is slight age toning and a few foxing spots. Spine is chipped, but the chipping does not affect text. A Very Good copy. Report of Secretary of War Jefferson Davis. The following is the printed text on the first page immediately following the title: "This act authorizes the payment to Joseph B. Eaton, assignee of Moses Carson, of six hundred and fifty-three dollars, for 'twenty-five horses and saddles and three boxes of percussion caps' furnished by said Carson to Colonel Fremont's battalion of mounted volunteers, in October, 1846." The case is about an act that would provide monetary compensation of a specified amount to Joseph B. Eaton in exchange for when Moses Carson gave supplies to Fremont's Battalion. The report proceeds to discuss the basis of Carson's due bill and includes statements from Lieutenant J. W. Reese and Lieutenant John C. Fremont confirming that Carson furnished supplies for the battalion and that compensation is due. However, despite the act passing in the House of Representatives, the Committee on Military Affairs and the Militia recommends to the Senate that it does not pass because of inconsistencies in the statements regarding how much of each supply was given and the monetary value of each supply..
