First Edition / First Printing. As New in No Dust Jacket, As Issued. 16 pages. Artist Book. The 100th title in the now-legendary "One Picture Book" Series by Nazraeli Press, one of the most superb ongoing projects of contemporary art photography. Limited Edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Accompanied by one tipped-in, original print by the artist/photographer (hence the Series' name). An elegant production by Chris Pichler: Small-size volume format. Titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs from the collection of Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck. Photograph by Tomoko Sawada. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Gloria Katz's, Willard Huyck's, and Tomoko Sawada's "Souvenirs". The very last title in the Series, an ending with a bang. What a wonderful way to wrap up the Series: "A recreation of sixteen hand-tinted Japanese 'Geisha' postcards, originally printed in the early 1900's. Includes an original signed photograph by Tomoko Sawada, a photographer well-known for her chameleon-like self-portraits. In this case, she has transformed herself into a wistful turn-of-the century geisha. Sawada's cameo appearance in this book is also a play on the One Picture Book Series itself, as she authored # 99. Gloria Katz is a screenwriter whose credits include 'American Graffiti' and 'Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom'. She is an avid collector of Japanese photography, an interest that stems from her love of Japanese cinema. She is the co-author (with her husband Willard Huyck) of 'Visions of Japan', a book about her adventures collecting photography" (Publisher's blurb). "All people, despite having different types of so-called 'added values' such as nationality, race, religion, and language, are essentially and naturally equal human beings. This fundamental underlies my photographic work: I aim to point people euphemistically to the fact that humans share 99.99999% of the same genes" (Tomoko Sawada). She makes her point about us being One paradoxically, by embodying some of the most specific ethnicities, among other differentiating cultural referents. An absolute "must-have" title for Tomoko Sawada collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition, indicated/numbered as such in pencil on the Back Limitation Page. It comes with the "Geisha Self-Portrait" postcard-photograph that is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen in front by Tomoko Sawada. The postcard, which is very beautiful, is full-sized, at 4 X 6 inches. Laid-in is a spare, "bonus" copy of it. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Limited Edition still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Apart from being one of the very best titles in the entire Series, this is also a rare opportunity for collectors to own an original print by one of the most important (and "hottest", in terms of the price of her prints) photographers working actively today. A rare signed copy thus. 16 color plates, 1 original postcard-photograph. One of the most brilliant Japanese photographers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ONE PICTURE BOOK TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1590054741.
