An original eulogy printed in a pamphlet (beige paper wrappers with string binding) and an original letter handwritten in black ink on beige paper. Letter signed, "Emily Dicken." No date for either, pamphlet circa 1930 and letter circa 1920s-1930. Pamphlet: 3 3/4" x 6 1/4." Letter: 5 1/4" x 6 1/2." Pamphlet: seven pages, complete. Letter: four pages. Pages of pamphlet are very clean and intact except for light age toning and some offsetting on first page. Covers of pamphlet are very clean and intact except for slight wear to extremities and a small spot on front. Binding is tight. Letter is clean and intact overall except for a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, age toning, and a few small stains. Pamphlet and letter are each Very Good. A eulogy honoring Emily Rodgers Dicken (1889-1930), an American woman, together with a handwritten letter signed by her. The eulogy commends Emily's character and offers a brief chronology of the serious chronic illness that tragically cut her life short. The eulogy mentions Clinton, possibly Emily's husband, and Jim, Emily's son. A small (2 1/4" x 3") black-and-white photograph of Emily and Jim is tipped in on the inside of the front cover. The name of the eulogy's author is not stated. Emily's letter is addressed to Marian. In her letter, Emily writes to Marian about a number of subjects and begins with an apologetic tone as Marian had apparently tried to meet with Emily but the latter was away. Emily encourages Marian to "try us again." Emily also writes fondly of traveling to Europe with Jim and socializing with other acquaintances.. Ephemera. Book Condition: Very Good.
