Eleven additional pages in back listing members of the Hudson's Bay Record Society. Front colophon: "This copy is No. 191 of a limited Edition which is issued only to subscribers to The Hudson's Bay Record Society." Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning throughout and slightly bumped edges. Covers are very clean and intact except for slight bumping to corners and head and tail of spine. A Very Good, almost Near Fine copy. Volume III in the Publications of the Hudson's Bay Record Society series. A collection of reprinted records related to the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) from 1821-1831. Contents are listed as follows: "Preface," "Introduction: Part I: Reorganization, 1821-25; Part II: Consolidation, 1826-31; Part III: Conclusion," "Minutes of Council, 1821-1831," "Appendix A: Letters from the Governor and Committee to the Northern Department, 1821-22; Reports of George Simpson to the Governor and Committee,1822; Selection from the Correspondence of the Northern Department, 1821-22," "Appendix B: Biographical," and "Index." The Hudson's Bay Company was founded in 1670 as a fur trading company. HBC once controlled a commercial monopoly throughout the entirety of Rupert's Land, a territory expressly formed for HBC's monopoly. Rupert's Land also comprised the Hudson Bay drainage basin. The Canadian government gained control of Rupert's Land in 1870 following negotiations with HBC. HBC is still in business to this day as Canada's largest and oldest corporation. Today, HBC is commonly referred to as "The Bay" and has many brick-and-mortar retail stores as well as an online store.
