Folio, measuring 18 x 15 inches in original brown cloth-backed boards with gilt title in a gilt frame on the cover. Portrait photograph of Francis Giesler Newton by Swaine tipped-in frontis page. Text portion followed by 20 stunning colour and monochrome plates, printed on rectos only, with guardleaves, and numerous text figures. F. G. Newton Memorial volume. Contributions by N. de Garis Davies, H. Frankfort, Glanville, T. Whittemore with plates in color by the Late Francis G. Newton, Nina de G. Davies and N. de Garis Davies. Attempts to link the painting of El-'Amarneh to Egyptian art of the preceding periods and possible foreign influences. Includes discussion of the affinities of the mural painting; the decoration of the houses, and the paintings of the Northern Palace. Francis Giesler Newton was appointed in February 1924 Director of the Society's excavations, and proceeded to El-'Amarneh in October. He was taken ill in camp, and died of encephalitis lethargica in the American Hospital at Assiut on christmas Day. In excellent condition except for some very occasional and minor foxing on the text pages. Scans available upon request. Extra-heavy.
