Collection of five original black-and-white photographs and one letter typed on beige paper and signed by F. C. Franklin as "Fred." Signature is in dark blue pen. Included is a folded paper envelope which contained the letter and photos. One photograph is dated 1949. The remaining photographs are undated but circa 1949-1950. Letter is datelined June 25, 1950 in Durham, California. Each of the photographs is 7" x 5" except for one measuring 5" x 3 3/4." Letter: 8 1/2" x 5 1/4." Letter is one page, complete. Photographs range from Near Fine to Fine and are very clean and intact. Some of the photos are virtually pristine and intact with little to no surface wear while others have a few minuscule spots and surface scratches. The letter is Very Good and clean and intact overall. The letter has been folded in half vertically and the right side is browned. The upper-right corner is bumped and there is a small closed tear measuring 1/2" on right edge not affecting text. The entire collection is Very Good. In his letter, Fred C. Franklin of Durham, California writes to Farrell Wrenn of Auburn, California about Snip, a horse Wrenn had sold to him. The letter reads, in part, "Dear Mr. Wrenn: I am sending you these pictures with my compliments and I hope that you will like them. ... I can assure you there will always be a soft spot in my heart for the man who sold me Snip. It took a little experimenting before I could get Snip to show real good but when I got him shod the best way for him to be shod I have certainly been able to make one of the prettiest show horses out of him that ever led a team. I am so proud of him. I think that he is the best horse that I ever drove or have ever seen driven and you know that is saying a lot. Thanking you, I remain, Very truly yours, F. C. Franklin [typed signature], Fred [hand signature]." The following are the captions that accompany the photographs [visual subject and any additional notes in brackets]. (1) "Fred Franklin wins Gold Cup, Roseville 1949. Snip in lead" [Franklin's team of show horses at fair]. (2) "F. C. Franklin, Durham, Calif." [team of horses from the driver's point of view; "Forrest's Studio, Jun 15 1949, 3017 Myers St., Oroville, Calif." stamped on back]. (3) "Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Franklin receiving 1st award from Secretary Tom Pugh at Roseville. Six teams competed in this event. Snip and Beauty." [The Franklins are seated on their carriage while Pugh gives Fred the award and horses Snip and Beauty are in the front]. (4) "Fred Franklin parade at Chico, 1950. Snip in lead" [Franklin's team rides on a street in Chico, California. Some of the businesses (identifiable by their signs) are Sigel's Men's Wear, Chico Park Florist, Ganyon's, Silver Room, and Knotty Pine]. (5) "Fred Franklin and Snip" [Fred drives his team of horses on a street, possibly as part of the same Chico parade shown in another photo; a sign for a "Medical Pharmacy" is visible in the background]..
