Spine frayed at head and tail; some dampstaining to covers; bookseller's label of "Davis Bros., Golden Rule Bazaar, San Francisco, Cal." on lower pastedown; hinges splitting, and pinhole (defunct wormhole?) internally to upper hinge; some foxing to endpapers and page edges, sporadic spotting elsewhere. Fair condition. Evidently a cheap, unillustrated edition of this popular history of California, with much on the gold discoveries.
