A Fine copy. A collection of poems or verses by Hamlin Garland (1860-1940), an American author. In addition to poetry, Garland wrote novels, essays, short stories. He is perhaps best-known for his fictional works about Midwestern life. This book is a love letter to the bygone Midwestern prairies which Garland had enjoyed, yet untouched by man, in his boyhood. Garland differentiates the prairies from the plains by the former's diversity of flora and fauna and the latter's relatively uniform fields of low grasses. Accompanying the poems are printed drawings by Horace T. Carpenter (1857-1947), an American artist and author. As an artist, Carpenter worked primarily in illustration and oil painting. Carpenter's illustrations in this book show a variety of subjects relating to the Midwest such as farmers, cattle, and bucolic prairies.. Illustr.: Carpenter, H. T. (Drawings). Book.
