The bookplate has a small black-and-white illustration of two Muses in a roundel portrait. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Binding is tight. Pages have light age toning and occasional foxing. Some marks and spots to the boards. Covers have slight wear to edges, corners, and front and back outer joints. A Very Good copy. George Robert Gleig (1796-1888) was a Scottish soldier, army chaplain, and author. As an author, Gleig specialized on military subjects. In this autobiographical account, Gleig recounts his time in the British Army during the War of 1812. In addition to covering the Battles of Washington and New Orleans, Gleig writes about the local scenery and everyday experiences on his tour of duty in the United States and other places, such as Bermuda and Cuba..
