HAMOND, Andrew Snape (1738-1828) : A Fine 3pp. Letter to William Proctor Smith, Signed and Dated London 22 August 1799

Hamond writes to Smith having heard from Lord Macartney and other officers "lately come from the Cape" as to Smith having settled into Cape society and carrying out his duties in a way which has impressed the Commissioners. He congratulates Smith on his mariage. He writes "I hjave recommended you to Sir Roger Curtis & Sir George Younge as a person in whose welfare I am much interested.....". Captain Sir Andrew Snape Hamond, 1st Baronet (17 December 1738 – 12 September 1828) was a British naval officer and Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1781 to 1782.. He became Commander-in-Chief, The Nore in 1785 and Comptroller of the Navy from 1794. From 1796 to 1806, he was a Member of Parliament for Ipswich.. He also was a member of the Court for the Court-Martial of the crew members captured on Tahiti who were involved in the Mutiny on the Bounty.
