Bret Harte (1836-1902) was an American author who was born in Albany, New York. Harte moved to California in 1853 and became well-known for his short stories and poems about the life, culture, and people of the California Gold Rush. As he traveled more and visited new places, he incorporated those experiences into his writings. However, Harte is still best-known for his works about the Gold Rush to this day.
