The second-state dustjacket (designed by the legendary Germano Facetti (whose redesign of Penguin paperbacks reverberates and are revered still)) has a clear cellophane protective cover. The rear of the dustjacket has four peer reviews (Nelson Algren, James Jones, Irwin Shaw, Kenneth Tynan) plus one from the New York Times. The dj is placid and contented. It has some wear, scuffing, marks. The price (21s.) has not been snipped. The dj is secure, sure. The red boards are neat. Gilt titling (still beaming) on the spine. They have very light shelving wear. The boards are serene, contented. The contents are agreeable. The papertrims have foxing : this has travelled over to the edges of some pages. the jacket is a colour photocopy from a very good jacket. the original red boards of this book are very marked and worn and the spine has been repaired. there is a split in the binding at the half title page and some netting is showing. this has also been repaired. there are 2 signatures from a previous owner. i described the book as "fair" as most of the damage to the book is covered by the copy jacket. if this was not the case the book would have been described as poor.(rf180).
