Includes biographical sketches of the contributors. Interestingly, Hemingway's erroneously cites one of his books as Winner Take All, instead of Winner Take Nothing. The Hemingway piece appeared originally in The New Republic, January 12, 1938, while the author was in Spain covering the Spanish Civil War. Gellhorn's piece appeared originally in Collier's Weekly, January 20, 1940. From the opening paragraph of the Hemingway, "When we got up with the Americans they were lying under some olive trees along a little stream. The yellow dust of Aragon was blowing over them, over their blanketed machine guns, over their automatic rifles and their anti-aircraft guns. It blew in blinding clouds raised by the hooves of pack animals and the wheels of motor transporters;" and the Gellhorn, "The road was just wide enough for the car and here it narrowed at a bridge.
