UK,large Crown 8vo HB,new edn,1st thus, undated (nd.) reprint.[True UK,1st edn originally published by same publisher for the following year date,1896,although US edn bears the actual year date,1895,but followed the prior UK issue. This example, an undated, but early reprint. With Bombay included in the Publisher's address, this would date the book at the earliest, circa 1901 or onwards - as the publisher opened that office/address in that year,1901. The practice by the British Museum of dating all books when first catalogued was most helpful. But the loss of records and books in the 1941 London bombing air raids of WW2 (which also destroyed Blackie's "50 Old Bailey" so common on Henty title pages) was an irreparable misfortune and loss.] VG+.No owner inscrptn but a partially removed Prize Award bookplate dated 25th January 1914,pasted to clean plain grey front pastedown.Bright, crisp, and generally clean - with ubiquitous, but minimal bumping and rubbing to corners - publisher's original colour illustrated, decorated front bd+spine/backstrip,red cloth covered boards.Front board with colour printed decoration of a Knight of the White Cross with a shield, fending of a flight of arrows, illustrated by John Hassall, within a black ink printed bordered panel, with bright, crisp, blocked gilt title+author lettering above the illustration to top edge.Though generally bright and clean, the spine/backstrip is slightly sunned/faded,to a coloured, standing figure of a Knight with a shield, again within a black ink printed bordered panel, which has some minimal but missing/ worn colour printed ink spots to the illustration/decoration.Less crisp, bright stamped gilt title+author lettering, slightly faded but still discernible, similar brighter black ink printed publisher's name to foot of spine/ backstripRear board plain and without tooling, decoration or illustration. All edges olivine; contents generally bright, tight, clean - hardly any spotting/ foxing to body of text - solid and sound, hinges intact. The forward obliques,i.e. /,in the following title page description, are used to indicate a blank space or line(s) between the preceding and following written words.Title page: A KNIGHT/of the White Cross/A Tale of the Siege of Rhodes/By/G.
