The letter reads: "My dear Dr. Ritzman: Thinking that you may wish to add to your collection of Lincoln memorabilia the address delivered by Mr. Emanuel Hertz at our celebration last October, I am sending you a copy. With cordial good wishes, I am, Sincerely yours, Zens L. Smith." Hertz analyzes and comments on the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858 and extols Lincoln's debating skills and his use of critical thinking and legal knowledge.
