Written by the founder of Good Will Farm, George Walter Hinckley (1853-1950). Hinckley gives a biographical anecdotes of McDonald in his eulogy. Hinckley describes McDonald as a humble, hard-working, virtuous young man who not only had Christian principles but also acted upon them. McDonald's life was tragically cut short, but he showed great promise as a future clergyman. Good Will Farm was founded in 1889 in Fairfield, Maine as a home for boys who were orphans or whose parents could no longer care for them. As suggested by the name, Good Will Farm included a farm that provided food as well as employment for the boys. Employment also came in the form of other tasks such as working in the kitchen, doing laundry, or delivering mail. Good Will Farm eventually opened its doors to girls with the founding of Smith Cottage in 1897. Good-Will Farm is still an active, charitable organization for under-privileged or at-risk youth to this day in Fairfield and is currently known as Good Will-Hinckley.. Book.
