The Mr. Hans W. Munzer may be the same Hans W. Munzer of the Defense Language Institute of California, who was a professor of languages for most of his career. Excerpt from the Preface: "The present investigation of family relationships in the dramas of August von Kotzebue was undertaken in the belief that such a study would produce fruitful results along several lines. Besides contributing to an understanding of the dramatist's technique in dealing with the various interrelationships which may arise within the sphere of the family, it might help to explain Kotzebue's great popularity, as well s the extreme vilification of the author, which has continued down to the present day; it might also show to what an extent the plays reflect the Kulturleben of the time in which Kotzebue lived. ... Here the library administration has brought together a collection of works by and on the playwright which is certainly unique in Germany, where research interest in Kotzebue scarcely exists as yet." August von Kotzebue (1761-1819) was a German author and dramatist. Kotzebue was considered a controversial author in his time, and unfortunately, after protesting against nationalist liberals who wanted free institutions, he was assassinated by a militant member of Burschenschaften. Despite the controversial nature of his writings, Kotzebue was also popular writer and wrote over 200 plays in his career.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
