First edition. Many include original paper wrappers. 8vo. Around 60 pages; 23.5 cm. Written in German with some volumes including an additional Hebrew section. Title translates to “Annual Report of the Jewish Theological Seminary (Fraenckelsche Stiftung) . ” A nearly complete run of the journal including the editions printed from 1866-1869, 1872-1875, 1877-1922, and 1924-1938 (only missing 14 out of 82) . Some volumes bound separately in a limited run and some include duplicates. The Judisch-Theologischen Seminars, Breslau was the “first modern rabbinical seminary in Central Europe. Founded in 1854 with the funds which Jonas Fraenkel, a prominent Breslau businessman, had willed for the purpose, the seminary became the model for similar colleges set up in Europe and the U. S…. The seminary’s basic aim was to teach ‘positive historical Judaism. ’ The ‘positive’ stood for a faithful adherence to the practical precepts of Judaism, while ‘historical’ permitted free inquiry into the Jewish past, including even Bible criticism, though with some self-imposed limitations” (JewishVirtualLibrary.org, 2016) . Every year, the seminary published an annual report with scholarly work by the professors at the seminary, up until the Nazis destroyed the seminary in 1938.
