Pictorial colour decorated [STEAD] dw/dj, with minimal shelf-wear and creasing to bottom edge and circled number 36 to foot of spine/backstrip.Top edge slightly more creased with some rubbing and miniscule loss to top right corner.Head+foot of spine/backstrip lightly bumped,chipped and creased.All edges aged as usual/normal, with contents remarkably bright,tight, clean and fox-free.Bright,clean,red paper-covered boards with black ink printed letters to upper board and spine/backstrip and an illustrated design to upper board and plain white endpaers.UK,8vo HB+dw/dj, 1st edn,2nd imp,5-158pp [paginated] includes 8 full-page b/w illustrations by L[eslie] L[eonard] STEAD (1899-1966),all called for. Often worked as STEAD.Trained under the artist and designer Eugene Haskin,who was one of H&S's illustrators.His own association with H&S began in March 1916, and he later illustrated many of the Biggles,Worrals and Gimlet books by W E. JOHNS and published by H&S and the Brockhampton Press.He specialised in figures in action (generally treating settings and props in a cursory fashion), and worked in black+white (pen or brush), halftone (crayon or pen and wash),and full colour. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template,altering its prices,weight allowances,dimensions and lowered its qualifying compensation rates too!
