Knausgaard, Karl Ove (Author); Various Contributors & The Editors of ESOPUS Magazine : Esopus Magazine: Issue 23: Karl Ove Knausgaard

ESOPUS Foundation Limited, New York City, NY, 2016

First Edition / First Printing. As New in No Dust Jacket, As Issued. Unpaginated. Rare Karl Ove Knausgaard collectible item. A pristine copy of the legendary ESOPUS 23 Magazine Issue, signed by Karl Ove Knausgaard. The Issue features a stand-alone Pamphlet/Insert that contains an Essay by the author. It marks the very first appearance of the piece in English and in published form. ESOPUS is a multi-media magazine that all-encompasses literature, photography, the visual and performing arts. Includes contributions from a cross-section of creative disciplines. Presented in a striking visual format with no advertising. Removable posters, booklets, foldouts, and hand-assembled sculptures, utilizing complex printing processes, unique paper stocks, and specially-formulated inks, produced and realized in Canada to the highest standards. CD enclosed in pouch that is attached at the back. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in a separate Pamphlet/Insert format, Karl Ove Knausgaard's "On The Value of Literature" in a felicitous English translation. His full-fledged, characteristically iconoclastic, and indispensable literary manifesto. "Why books, sentences, words? Well, art can be invigorating to look at, but what is art exactly, if not the arbitrary product of human beings who never really learned how to adapt to society, people who believe themselves to be so special they don't need to contribute to the community, and instead spend their time giving form to the encounter between their precious inner being and the community's external manifestation, in the shape of earth piled up on a floor, an erect penis drawn with a marker on a sheet of metal, a motorcycle suspended from the ceiling, or simply an untidy room with an unmade bed, reconstructed in a gallery space?" (Karl Ove Knausgaard). An absolute "must-have" title for Karl Ove Knausgaard collectors. This copy of ESOPUS Magazine Issue 23's Pamphlet/Insert is very boldly and beautifully signed, placed, and dated (shortly after publication) in black ink-pen on the title page by the author: "Brooklyn 21/5/16 Karl Ove Knausgaard". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great Issue. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, placed, and post-publication dated copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Extreme demand and time constraint have made Knausgaard resort to an Ondaatje-like swirl of a signature. Copies signed in this drastically abbreviated way have little to no collectible value. So the more he leaves of himself on the page (such as the place and date), the better. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER KARL OVE KNAUSGAARD TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).
