Collection of original letters handwritten in black ink on beige paper and envelopes. 1922-1923. Letters range in size from about 5" x 8" to 8" x 9 3/4." Envelopes range in size from about 3" x 5 1/2" to 4" x 7 1/2." Letters, envelopes, and envelopes are clean and intact. At the time of these letters, James A. Landregan, Jr. are a young married couple about to have their first child, Patricia. While Helen remains in Berkeley, James goes to work at the Kirkpatrick gold mine near Goodyears Bar in Sierra County. The gold mine is managed by John C. Donnelly who only occasionally visits to pay the crew and give supervision. Landregan worries about getting paid on time and about the mine staying in business. Landregan also writes Helen about making arrangements to stay in a hospital to give birth to their daughter. The baby is born in October 1922. In addition to the three letters bearing postal cancellation stamps from Goodyears Bar, one letter was mailed from Forest, CA and another was mailed from Downieville, CA. There are also six additional letters written about a year later in 1923, from James to Helen. By this time, James is working for the Anglo American Trust Co. in the Bay Area. Helen is visiting acquaintances in Los Angeles. James writes in his letters about the bond business and tells Helen how much he misses her.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
