Contemporary brown full leather with gilt lettering on spine label. Issued without the plates that were in the English (British) Edition. 5 1/2" x 8 3/4." 396 pages, complete. Index in back. Pages are foxed but intact. Covers are clean and intact overall but there is corner and edge wear, rubbing and general wear to front and back, and some wear of the front and back outer joints. Joints are still strong and holding. A couple small chips to back endpaper. A Very Good copy. An autobiographical account by Reverend C. I. Latrobe during his 1815-1816 voyage to South Africa to visit Moravian missions. C. I. Latrobe (1758-1836) was an English clergyman of the Moravian Church who promoted mission work. At this time, the Moravian Church was referred to as Unitas Fratum, or, the United Brethren. The Moravian Church is one of the oldest Protestant denominations dating back to the Bohemian Reformation in the fifteenth century. Latrobe's account is organized by date. Within his entries, he conveys his thoughts and observations of the different places he visits and the events that occur on his journey.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
