Lloyd, Clinton : Two Autograph Manuscript Documents Signed. "Clinton Lloyd"

circa.1857-58. Two manuscript documents signed in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. First document (7 1/2 x 12 inch) dated 1857 and 1858. Second document, dated 1857 (7 3/4 x 9 1/4 inch). Both documents are in Clinton Lloyd's hand writing and signed by him. Clinton Lloyd (1828-1901) was born in Williamsburg, Pa and graduated from Dickinson College in 1847. In 1853 he became Lycoming County District Attorney. In 1863 he was appointed Chief Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, a post he held until 1875. He is best remembered in history for attesting, as Chief Clerk of the House of representatives, to the House's override of Andrew Johnson's veto of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which gave the former slaves U.S. citizenship. These two signed manuscripts are from an earlier period in Lloyd's life. In the first he provides a true copy of a note he is trying to collect for a client.
