Pages are clean and intact overall except for a few wrinkles, slight rippling, occasional offsetting, light to moderate foxing and staining throughout (text still readable), and minuscule chipping along spine (text is unaffected). A Very Good copy. A Christian tract containing an address by Charles Pettit McIlvaine (1799-1873), an Episcopal bishop, author, and educator. McIlvaine also served twice as the chaplain of the United States Senate. Upon his passing, McIlvaine was honored for four days at Westminster Abbey and remains the only American to lie-in-state at Westminster Abbey to this day. In this address, McIlvaine advocates for temperance, especially among young men. At the conclusion of his address, McIlvaine ardently supports the formation of young men's temperance societies. Tract No. 244 of the American Tract Society. The American Tract Society (ATS) is an evangelical organization that was founded in 1825 as the result of a merger between the New York Religious Tract Society (founded in 1812) and the New England Religious Tract Society (founded in 1814). Upon its founding, ATS became the first organization in the United States whose express mission was to hand out Christian tracts. ATS is still active to this day and has since had its publications printed in over 100 languages in seventy different countries.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
