Maxwell, Marcuswell : Elephants and Other Big Game Studies from The Times

(London, The Times Publishing Company, 1930)

Oblong 4to; original black cloth gilt; pp. (iv) + (28). Slight wear to head and tail of spine; cloth and prelims. a little fishmothed; ownership inscription dated 1930 on front free endpaper; moderate foxing to endpapers, sporadic light foxing elsewhere. Good condition. Concerning this photographer's other work Stalking Big Game with a Camera in Equatorial Africa, Kenneth Czech writes that "the photographic images are striking." The same is true of the pictures in this book. It includes studies of elephants, black rhinoceros, waterbuck, wild dogs, hyenas, impalas, eland, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and vultures. "From the photographic point of view, I consider the lion the most pleasing, the rhino the most interesting, and the buffalo the most exciting. But the elephant possesses all these attributes in a high degree, and, in addition, is extremely amusing and intelligent. Hence I consider elephant photography the most fascinating of all."
