Medium 8vo; publisher's blind-stamped green cloth, re-backed, with original gilt-lettered spine laid on newer cloth; pp. vii + (i) + 477; frontis. portrait with tissue-guard; several Cruikshank illustrations. Cover rather bumped, soiled and worn; previous owner's hand-stamp on front free endpaper and title page; signed "L O'Reilly 23/11/15" on the title page; broad tape reinforcing to hinges, archival tape along split between title and preface pages, and foxed frontis. re-inserted with cloth tape either side of inner edge; some foxing to Cruikshank engravings; some pages rather inexpertly opened, though without damage to text. Early issue of this classic work on the failed insurrection of the United Irishmen, which was suppressed by the British under Charles Cornwallis. The "O'Reilly" signature on the title page, signed a few months before the 1916 Easter Rising, would be an interesting subject for research. Fair condition.
