Two volumes. Originally published by Henry Bohn as part of his 'Illustrated Library' series in 1861. In 1864 however, he had reconciled himself with the fact that his sons were not interested in publishing, and sold his publishing House to George Bell (who issued this new edition). Original title page included as was often the case with new editions by other Houses. Included: clippings on Bohn and also "Paradise Lost". Both volumes are genial. The boards have stamped decoration and gilt titling on the spine (worn but bold). The boards of both are much worn, scuffed, marked. They are comfortable and secure and sure. The frontispages have previous owner inscriptions. The contents are benign and comfortable. They have some pencilled annotations and underlining. There are occasional age-related mottling marks.
