On offer is the charming original handwritten manuscript 1874 diary kept by Jennie [Jinney] Dodge a ten-year-old girl living in Pembroke New Hampshire who does an excellent job as a young diarist hardly ever missing a day and always noting weather, teachers, visits, visitors, local events and her inner thoughts. At Christmas, she notes "Went up to Grandmas. Oh I can't tell all the things. I had a skirt embroidered and 2 neckties, a napkin ring, a rabbit picture." "Today has been one of the saddest days of my life! Mother is cross and so am I, the 14th of October 1875, the day after Aunt Addie's funeral." Curiously a girl named Alice writes in diary: "Fall from a house and break your neck. Fall from the high heavens above but never fall in love. Love not a man, no not a brother; if ladies must love let them love one another. Ever yours, Alice." There are perhaps another 2 such friendship notes from another girl or girls.
