Two volumes, complete. Revised edition, bringing history up to 1874. Beautiful 3/4 brown leather binding with marbled boards. All edges marbled. Endpapers are also marbled. Gilt lettering on spine. Raised bands. 5 1/4" x 7 1/4." Volume I: 421 pages, complete. Volume II: 405 pages, complete. Former ownership drawing of intials "JH" in black ink on a front flyleaf in Volume I. Pages of both volumes are very clean and intact. Covers of both volumes are clean and intact overall but there is some rubbing on the front and back. Binding is tight. Personal bookplate of Colonel Fiennes Stanley Wykeham Cornwallis tipped in on front pastedown of both volumes. The bookplate shows a stag with the Latin phrase, "Virtus Vincit Invidiam." Fiennes Cornwallis (1864-1935) was a British conservative politician. He served in the House of Commons as a Member of Parliament for Maidstone and was also Chairman of the Kent City Council.. Book.
