A speech originally delivered before the United States House of Representatives on February 1, 1848 by Isaac E. Morse (1809-1866), an American lawyer and politician. He was a Democrat. Part of this speech refers to Morse in the third person. Much of his speech appears to respond to past statements by other politicians. Morse voices his support of the Mexican-American War and his opposition to abolition in this speech. He argues that the war with Mexico was not started by the U.S. march to the Rio Grande. He also defends Southern states' rights in relation to the debate over free and slave states. In the back is an Appendix containing Morse's reply to an article from the New York Herald and a reprinted letter from Zachary Taylor about the war. In his response to the New York Herald, Morse defends his support of slavery and says, "abolition and disunion go hand in hand.". Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Soft cover
